Our database on the environmental impacts of food uses full life-cycle assessment (LCA) data on the carbon footprint of products and ingredients. The life cycle stages are: raw material production, processing, packaging, transport, retail and distribution, consumption, and end-of-life. The database consists of thousands of peer-reviewed scientific studies alongside primary research and is independently reviewed by academic and industry experts. Where specific LCA values are unavailable due to a lack of data, the carbon footprint is calculated in line with average British consumption. This uses International Trade Centre data to map where food in the UK is typically sourced from. As more data becomes available, scores will be updated accordingly. Scores are refreshed monthly to use the newest most robust data. All of our CO2 scores and calculations are completed to the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Standard. The UK Green Claims Code, published in September 2021, lays out rules to follow to ensure that your company’s environmental claims are genuine and not misleading. In summary, the Green Claims Code consists of 6 key points. With Reewild, your business can fully adhere to the guidance, as we provide your products with accurate information that is backed by substantial evidence and data supporting your carbon footprint scores. Your sustainability claims will be clear and unambiguous with carbon labels, and no information will be omitted, as we use QR codes to make all environmental information accessible to the consumer through our app. We will also stay abreast of any new regulations and guidelines to ensure your environmental credentials adhere to standards and are always backed up, meaning you do not have to worry about any false claims or greenwashing. It might not be as hard as you think to be global leaders in climate transparency!

With our Gold plan you can go fully carbon neutral. Once we’ve calculated the amount of carbon emitted by each of your products throughout its lifecycle, we simply multiply that by the amount of items you’re projected to sell throughout the year. We then purchase carbon credits that remove that amount of carbon (plus an extra 10% to be certain) from the atmosphere. Find out more in the 'Our Projects' section of the website.

Carbon offsetting is a way of counterbalancing your negative emissions. The process involves investing in solutions that remove the same quantity of CO2 from the atmosphere as the amount emitted by a certain activity. An example, an average UK citizen produces 9 tons of CO2 every year. To offset that footprint would require investing in a solution that sucks out those 9 tons of CO2 from the atmosphere. This could involve planting trees, or indeed investing in technologies such as Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), or Direct Air Capture (DAC).Carbon Capture – Removing C02 from the atmosphere. This can be done via tree planting and protecting our forests. Emissions Reduction: This can be done through adopting new technologies, such as driving electric cars, or switching energy sources from fossil fuels to solar and wind energy. We are working with the UK company, Forest Carbon. Together, we will reforest land, helping regenerate soil health and biodiversity! Right here in the UK! All of their offsets are certified by the Woodland Carbon Code.

Yes! Obviously it cannot be the only solution, but it can be a significant part of it. Trees absorb large amounts of CO2 during a process called photosynthesis, which they carry out to produce their own sugars for fuel. The more trees are planted, the less climate change-inducing CO2 there is in the atmosphere. Trees are relatively inexpensive and, when the right species are planted, they can establish wonderfully diverse ecosystems for life to thrive and for carbon to be sequestered. If everyone in the UK invested £8 per month in trees, this could absorb around 3.5% of global CO2 emissions. If everyone in the EU did the same, 20% of global CO2 emissions could be absorbed. So, in short, trees will be crucial in our fight against climate change, with your small impact contributing to a massive gain.

CO2e is the unit measure used to calculate a carbon footprint. It stands for ‘carbon dioxide equivalent’, as a footprint contains not only carbon dioxide, but also other greenhouse gases, including methane, nitrous oxide, and several fluorinated gases. Different gases have different global warming potential (GWP), and are all factored into CO2e calculations.

While calculating the exact amount of carbon removed by each tree is impractical, estimates are possible. To assess the potential our trees have at CO2 sequestration (the process of CO2 removal used by vegetation), we use the modelling and assumptions underpinning the US Environmental Protection Agency’s Greenhouse Gases Equivalencies Calculator. Their model estimates that 1 tree = 0.060 metric ton CO2 sequestered over a 10 year period. This is the calculation we use across all our services and products. This takes into account other greenhouse gases, such as methane and nitrogen dioxide, which also heavily contribute to climate change. Once a month we will charge you the amount specified by your subscription level. We then immediately invest the state amount in our trusted carbon offset partners, who then use the money to plant trees or restore peatland. We can then track how many trees you’ve planted and how many hectares of peatland you’ve restored, quantifying these numbers in terms of kg CO2e removed from the atmosphere.
